2015 PRESS RELEASE

Flamenco Rosario’s Artistic Director, Rosario Ancer, and Musical Director, Victor Kolstee, are proud to welcome you to the 25th Anniversary edition of the Vancouver International Flamenco Festival this year! In marking this unique-to-Canada artistic milestone and legacy, and as a testimonial to the incredible flamenco flourishing witnessed in our city since the festival’s first edition back in 1990, we are excited to invite all Vancouverites, British Columbians and Canadians from all provinces to a special celebratory programming reflecting on a quarter century of flamenco art evolutions!

Giving the stage to numerous local and national flamenco performers and companies such as Esmeralda Enrique (Toronto) and Fiona Malena (Calgary), as well as Vancouver’s own Flamenco Rosario presenting a new historical flamenco retrospective “Fast Forward Replay”. This September will also shine bright lights onto two Spanish masters of exceptional talent and reputation: Andres Peña and Pilar Ogalla co-performing “Cadiz de la Frontera”, a uniquely reflective work about the poetic entanglements of the sea and earth elements in Andalusia viewed through the prism of their respective flamenco.

Aficionados, novices and children alike will also enjoy a myriad of opportunities to listen, practice, discover and even “see” flamenco art with a dozen painters, sculptors and photographers from Vancouver opening the flamenco-inspired “Arte y Pasion” public exhibition at Basic Inquiry Studio, a free flamenco demonstration and lecture at the Vancouver Public Library, a musical evening with “La Musica Del Flamenco” featuring Spanish singer Angelita “La del Lito” along with Musical Director and guitarist Victor Kolstee and other local musicians, a special matinée presentation for the youth to experience flamenco dancing and more!

Don’t miss your chance to be a part of Vancouver’s flamenco history and join us comes September on Granville Island where the festival is headquartered to celebrate 25 years of Western flamenco excellence bridging the east into the proud, vibrant, national scene that Canada enjoys today!
